Things sure heated up fast on this blustery winter night as the Hopkins Royals and Edina Hornets competed in a game that had all the right moves you would expect to see at a high school basketball game.
Hornets #3 Graham Woodward did a great job for Edina in the first half keeping them in the game. The Royals would twice find their twelve point lead vanish as the Hornets kept the pressure on. Both teams stunned the crowd landing a dozen three-point shots by the close of the first half.
Hopkins looked like they wanted to put this one away early in the second half as they built themselves a sixteen-point lead. Then mid way through, Royals #10 Andre McDonald takes the breakout pass down the court and finishes with a thunderous dunk.
The drama hit its peak with 6:47 left on the clock, when Hopkins #4 Siyani Chambers and Edina’s #20 Flip DeBerg collide near mid-court. Hopkins head coach Ken Novak Jr. is upset with the call. He gets ejected after receiving two technical fouls. The game would play out with a few more baskets traded each way. Final score has Hopkins up 93-79.
